Tracing an Email Address

When? cPanel manages your email through its own mail server. However, by altering your MX (Mail Exchange Record) Entry you can point your email to another mail server, if this is required.

Note: cPanel will not be able to manage your email if you change your MX Entry setting.
HowTo:
  • Click on Mail in your control panel.
  • Click on Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry).
  • Click on Change a MX Entry.
  • Select the domain for which you wish to modify the MX entry in the list.
  • Enter the new MX entry in the field next to it.

    Example: If you wish to change the MX entry of bobcompany.com to mail.everyone.net, you would select bobcompany.com in the list and enter mail.everyone.net in the field.

    Note: You can only change the entry to a domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com), not an IP (Internet Protocol) address.
  • Click on the Change button.
